Check out Meeg's new books, exciting awards & free resources for educators, readers & writers!
Greetings! It's been a while since I've posted on this blog or sent out a newsletter, as I was sidelined for a bit on medical leave. But I'm back and excited to share many new book happenings & free resources with you!
Two New Books!
In Spring 2022, I was happy to send two fresh solutionary stories into the world:
So Much More to Helen!: The Passions & Pursuits of Helen Keller — A lyrical tribute to a barrier-breaking woman, this nonfiction picture book, illustrated by Caroline Bonne-Müller, shares parts of Helen's life most of us don't learn in school (she was an activist, author, vaudeville performer, dog lover, romantic, jokester, world traveler & more!). In its *starred review*, Booklist called this book "an inviting read-aloud about one of the most influential women of the twentieth century ... also serves as powerful advocacy for individuals with disabilities."
Make Way for Animals!: A World of Wildlife Crossings — Explore the wild world of wildlife crossings, for all kinds of animals all around the globe, in this vibrant picture book, illustrated by Bao Luu, which contains, as School Library Journal said in its *starred review*: "Everything readers need to know about wildlife crossings—what they are, why they are needed, who makes them happen—in a book all libraries should own."
You can purchase signed copies of these books through La Playa Bookstore and/or unsigned copies of any of my books through my Bookshop.org shop (which also supports independent bookstores!).
Many New Free Resources!
I'm excited to introduce my updated website, with new sections packed with free resources for educators, readers & writers:
Solutionary Stories Central — This passion project has evolved over several years, and now I'm so happy to offer, on my website, a Free Repository of Book Recommendations & Resources for Teachers & Readers! I offer curated lists of my favorite solutionary stories (diverse nonfiction picture books) organized by category through my own Solutionary Stories Bookshop Shop, blog interviews with some of the books' amazing authors, and teaching tools for both general solutionary stories lessons and my own specific books. Please check it out & share!
Teaching Guides & Author Talks — For educators, I have brand new activity guides for my two new books, plus guides for two of my previous books, and one in the works for Ocean Soup, so stay tuned! I also offer virtual author talks for schools, libraries and other groups.
For Writers — I love mentoring nonfiction children's book writers and I offer editing & critiques as well as workshops, articles & other resources!
Press Kit — I've added a press kit to my updated website, so you can quickly access and download my bios, headshots, and book covers!
